Tesco
Since 2002, Tesco colleagues and customers have contributed over £70 million to Cancer Research UK.
Tesco were the headline sponsor of Race for Life, our biggest series of fundraising events, from 2001 to 2022 and more than 400,000 Tesco colleagues and customers have taken part in an event over the last 22 years. Since 2022, Tesco is continuing to support Race for Life by paying colleague entry fee and topping up colleague fundraising.
Tesco Health Charity Partnership
In January 2018, we built on our longstanding relationship with Tesco by launching a ground-breaking partnership between Tesco, Cancer Research UK, Diabetes UK and the British Heart Foundation.
The partnership brings together the skills and expertise of the three charity partners and Tesco to help tackle the biggest health challenges facing the nation. Over the course of the partnership, the organisations have worked together through a series of targeted activities and campaigns including:
- Developing a sector leading workplace health programme for Tesco’s 300,000 UK colleagues
- Aligning communication campaigns to give customers the information they need to make healthier choices through in-store and online communication and nudges
- Working with Tesco pharmacists to help them better support customers in the prevention of heart and circulatory disease, cancer and diabetes
- Fundraising for more health research through innovative and engaging fundraising initiatives that help customers and colleagues raise money for the three charity partners
In 2023 our partnership was named the most admired partnership in the C&E Corporate–Non-Profit Partnerships Barometer for the second time.
Let's Talk pharmacy programme
In July 2022 the partnership announced the launch of the 'Let's Talk' pharmacy training programme. Cancer Research UK, the British Heart Foundation and Diabetes UK have been working with Tesco to deliver specialist training to Tesco pharmacists and pharmacy colleagues to support their conversations with the public.
Shoppers can now pop in and talk to one of the team wearing a ‘Let’s Talk’ badge. They are available for private and confidential conversations in consultation rooms. The training will help Tesco pharmacy colleagues provide more information and support as to how people can help lower their risk of these serious conditions through small changes to their day-to-day routine.
Pharmacists and pharmacy colleagues in more than 330 of Tesco’s pharmacies have completed the training. We hope the convenient setting and ease of accessibility will encourage more shoppers to have conversations about their health and seek support for making positive changes or about any concerning signs or symptoms.
Visit www.tesco.com/pharmacy where you will find a list of participating pharmacies.
