Pseudomyxoma peritonei

Pseudomyxoma peritonei is a very rare type of cancer that usually begins in your appendix as a small growth. This is called a polyp. More rarely, it can start in other parts of the bowel, ovaries or bladder.

The main treatments are surgery and chemotherapy. Your treatment depends on the size of the cancer and your general health. Your doctor might decide to closely monitor your cancer if it’s small, slow growing and you don’t currently need treatment.
