About Shine Night Walk Cardiff

"A friend asked if anyone would like to join her at Shine Night Walk Manchester I jumped at the chance. I have been treated for cancer twice so know how important Cancer Research UK is in helping those affected by cancer. We formed a team of six- our ages span every decade from 30 to 70. The night was well organised with plenty of stewards giving encouragement and making sure the route was clear. So many people out enjoying their Saturday night clapped and congratulated us as we walked past. This added to an already great atmosphere. We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and were pleased to have raised over £2,000 for such an important charity. We came away with a real buzz. I’d definitely recommend taking part"

1 in 2 people born in the UK after 1960 will get cancer in their lifetime*. Our research saves lives.
Over the last 40 years, Cancer Research UK's work has helped double breast cancer survival, we were a key player in the development of radiotherapy, and we played a role in developing 8 of the world’s top 10 cancer drugs.
Although we are proud of our achievements, there is still more to be done. The money you raise will help to bring us closer to our ambition of 3 in 4 people surviving their cancer for 10 years or more by 2034.
How fundraising helps Cardiff
Cancer Research UK spent over £4 million in 2022/23 in South and Mid Wales.
By bringing together the best minds from Cardiff University, Cardiff & Vale University Health Board and Velindre University NHS Trust, we’re determined to make a difference for people with cancer in Wales and beyond. Our scientists in Cardiff are experts in studying the inner workings of cancer cells, as well as genetics, early detection and prevention. They have a particular focus on a range of cancer types, including leukaemia and bowel, breast and prostate cancers.
Research happening right now in Wales includes:
- Personalising treatment for myeloma.
- Working with other charities to help people stop smoking and reduce health inequalities.
- We’re finding new ways to treat prostate cancer.

The first and last 50 meters are on a cobbled path so wheelchair users may need assistance here.

Please bring your own reusable water bottle filled. We have removed our single-use plastic bottles of water at the finish and pit stop stations and instead are providing water re-fill stations for you to top up and stay hydrated!
Travel
Car - Due to the city centre location of the event, we are unable to provide onsite parking. The closest car parks to Cardiff Castle are:

Electric car - There are a number of electric car charging points around Cardiff city centre and towards Cardiff Castle. The nearest electric car charging point is NCP Greyfriars Road, Cardiff, CF10 3AD - Approx an 8 minute walk to/ from the event site. Please visit Cardiff Gov for more information.
Bus - There are various bus stops on Kingsway and Castle Street with a variety of local bus services. Please visit Cardiff Bus for the bus timetable.
Train -The nearest train stations to Cardiff Castle are Cathays and Cardiff Central train station which are a 15 minute walk away.
