About the project

Cancer Research UK provides evidence-based information to help the public improve their health to reduce cancer risks. We also provide people affected by cancer with detailed information on cancer types and clinical trials to help them navigate their cancer journey.

With the arrival of new technology such as artificial intelligence which generates new and unique content, there are new opportunities and challenges for how we provide this information. We want your help to explore new opportunities in this space.

The goal of this project is to understand new opportunities for how we provide health and cancer patient information to the public. This includes our health information to raise awareness of how to prevent cancer, such as pop-up roadshows that help people understand cancer risks like smoking and obesity, and our cancer patient information, such as our website, which provides evidence-based content on 95% of all cancer types and over 2,800 cancer trials.

About the workshop

We’d like you to take part in an online group discussion to share your views on how we can deliver this information to the people who need to hear it most. This project will help ensure that Cancer Research UK’s information helps people find the information they need, at the right place and time, to ensure longer, better lives for those affected by cancer.

Who can take part

We’re looking to be joined by a diverse range of people affected by cancer of all ages. We’re particularly interested to hear from those who are more likely to face cancer inequalities. Cancer inequalities are the differences people have in their experience of cancer caused by the conditions in which people are born, grow, live, work, and age.  These differences are unfair and avoidable.

This includes those on lower incomes (for example, those who receive income support, are unemployed, or retired) and those who identify as coming from a lower socio-economic background. We’d like those involved to be aware of or have some experience of using some of Cancer Research UK’s information materials, including:

  • Our health information (pre-diagnosis) – e.g., visited our CRUK nurses at a Cancer Awareness Roadshow bus in your local area, read one of our leaflets in a health setting, or attended a Talk Cancer event to help you raise awareness of cancer amongst others.
  • Our cancer patient information (post-diagnosis) – e.g., looked at cancer information on the About Cancer part of the website or contributed to the Cancer Chat forum, or called the Nurse Helpline.
